Coulter Asks Palin to Endorse Simmons in CT Senate Race

Posted by Tom Skypek in 2010 Elections, American Politics

Ann Coulter writes in Human Events,

“Sarah Palin endorsed three dark-horse candidates in Republican match-ups this year, and all three won their primaries yesterday: Nikki Haley in South Carolina, Sharron Angle in Nevada and Carly Fiorina in California. No wonder Sarah’s being stalked by Joe McGinniss.

Now, she’s got to endorse Rob Simmons for U.S. Senate. Otherwise, Republicans can kiss the possibility of a major upset in Connecticut goodbye.”

Not too sure if this will go anywhere, but it’s interesting, nonetheless.

Teflon Dick: McMahon/Schiff Continue to Sputter

Posted by Will Riemer in American Politics

Rasmussen, a polling outfit that is known as friendly to Republicans, has Linda McMahon down 23 points to Richard Blumenthal, 56-33, in the Connecticut Senate race.  Peter Schiff, who has contributed to his own campaign a fraction of what Linda McMahon has to her’s, is only one point behind Linda at 32%.

While many in Washington predicted Blumenthal’s political career was sunk, Connecticut voters have measured his comments versus his twenty years of  press conferences and lawsuits ostensibly on their behalf.  The likely voters surveyed by Rasmussen split down the middle, 49-49, over whether or not Blumenthal’s “misstatements” would play an important role in determining how they ultimately decide to vote.  Blumenthal is already moving past the…

Thoughts on the Connecticut Senate Race

Posted by Tom Skypek in American Politics

Rob Simmons is a class act, through and through.  While I’m upset that he didn’t win the support of a majority of delegates at the recent Connecticut Republican Convention, his decision to gracefully exit the race is probably best for the party.  I know some of my good friends disagree with me.  A bloody primary campaign would reduce the odds of a Republican defeating Richard Blumenthal in November–a prospect that has increased in recent days with the revelations of Blumenthal’s serial lies about his military record.  This week Simmons decided to effectively suspend his campaign, rather than forcing an aggressive primary battle with Linda McMahon.  His name will remain on…

Simmons Edges Dodd in Poll for 2010 Senate Race

A Quinnipiac University poll released today shows former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons defeating Senator Chris Dodd in a hypothetical match-up for the 2010 senate race in Connecticut.  Simmons would make a fine U.S. senator; he was an outstanding member of the House, losing his re-election bid in 2006 by just 82 votes.  His defeat was mainly a product of the anti-Republican tide that swept the 2006 election cycle.  Simmons is a fighter.  A formidable campaigner, in 2000 he unseated a twenty-year incumbent in a congressional district where two-thirds of the voters are registered Democrats.

Recently, an anonymous aide to Dodd downplayed the prospects of a Simmons candidacy:  “”His [Dodd's] potential opponent Rob Simmons couldn’t even hold Connecticut’s Second District — how is he going to win statewide?”  Clearly, the aide knows next…
