I guess Barack Obama is human after all. He went into Wednesday evening’s press conference with the goal of convincing the American public that a massive government overhaul of the U.S. health care system is a good idea. He failed.
Instead, he stepped on a political land mine when he weighed in on the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Gates. Obama and his political team had to know that he’d get that question. Yours truly even knew it. When asked about the arrest, Obama should have said: “I’m not going to comment on a local law enforcement matter.” But he didn’t. His response must have given the Rahmster shortness of breath. First, he admitted he was a biased observer. Second, he acknowledged that he didn’t have the facts. Then he stuck his foot in his mouth when he said Sgt. James Crowley acted “stupidly” when he arrested Gates. Instead of just showing his ID to verify his residence, the good professor got mouthy, overreacted and was arrested. Race had nothing to do with it. Read the police report here.
