Despite a new study showing that abortion rates have steadily decreased since the ruling of Roe v. Wade, politicians on the left continue to champion abortionists’ cause on Capitol Hill. A new bill, the “Freedom of Choice Act” would not only legalize partial-birth abortions and mandate health-care providers perform abortions on demand even if they are morally opposed to the procedure, but would also overturn all current pro-life legislation. This includes state laws prohibiting the use of taxpayer money in funding abortions and parental consent/notification laws.
Not only is this a disgusting use of taxpayer money, it is not supported by the majority of US citizens. 72% of Americans believe partial-birth abortions should be illegal. 54% believe abortions should be banned in most cases. Abortion rates are at the lowest point they have been in thirty years.
The author of this “Freedom of Choice Act” is none other than Senator Barbara Boxer of California. Sen. Boxer is one of the most vocal advocates of abortion; not only does she support abortion throughout pregnancy, she also supports government funding for abortion clinics and opposes parental notification laws. It is not surprising that Sen. Boxer would champion a bill that would not only trump any state-level restrictions on abortions, but would also coerce the government into paying for them.
Barack Obama is overwhelmingly in support of the “Freedom of Choice Act”, stating that “the first thing I’d do as President” would be to sign this bill into law. In fact, Obama stands to the left of even Sen. Boxer on the abortion debate – while in the Illinois Senate, he voted “no” on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, a bill created to provide care to babies born alive during late-term abortions. When an identical bill came before the US Senate, every Senator – including Barbara Boxer – voted in support of the bill. Do we really want a President whose values are in such extreme opposition to the average American citizen?

I just don’t understand how anyone could think it is moral or appropriate or even excusable to kill an unborn baby at ANY gestational age, much less past the age of viability. As a woman who is currently struggling to conceive, it breaks my heart to think that at any point during the day there is a woman at an abortion clinic murdering her unborn child. I know women who have had abortions for ridiculous reasons. I also know a woman who was raped and became pregnant. Abortion never even entered her mind. Now that child is the light of her life. It boggles my mind that another woman in the same situation could have made the decision to take the life of an innocent child.
I am an educated woman. I am well read and well informed. I am gung-ho for women’s rights. Equal pay, job equity, etc. I just can’t ever say that women have a constitutional right to abortion on demand. Parents are notified when their child asks for a Tylenol at school, yet they shouldn’t be notified if their daughter goes to an abortion clinic to terminate a pregnancy? Amazing.
Sorry for the rambling comment. I feel very strongly about this issue and have a hard time holding my tongue, or fingers in this case.
I’m grateful for this blog…it’s my new favorite and if you don’t mind I’ve shared your blog on my myspace page to spread the word. They use such deceptive titles on these laws. and then create deceptive ads…How can you be against freedom and choice? there has never been a time to fight for American ideals. Keep up the fight and spreading the word on the work of the far left.
